In a thrilling Merseyside derby, Everton Women and Liverpool Women played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon. Gabby George opened the scoring for Everton in the first half, but Katie Stengel equalized for Liverpool in the second half to earn her side a share of the points.
Both teams started the match brightly and created chances, but it was Everton who took the lead in the 25th minute. George latched onto a through ball from Izzy Christiansen and fired a low shot past Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Laws.
Liverpool responded well to going behind and pressed for an equalizer. They came close on several occasions, but Everton goalkeeper Sandy MacIver made some excellent saves to keep her side in the lead.
Liverpool finally got their equalizer in the 65th minute when Stengel headed home a cross from right-back Niamh Charles. The goal gave Liverpool a boost, and they pushed for a winner in the closing stages.
However, Everton held on for a well-deserved point. The draw leaves Everton in fourth place in the Women's Super League table, while Liverpool remain in seventh.
