Clarke Admits His Side Let Themselves Down In 5 1 Defeat

Steve Clarke: Scotland boss will 'lock himself away' after Germany thrashing

Clarke admits his side 'let themselves down' in 5-1 defeat

Scotland were outclassed by hosts Germany in their Nations League opener on Tuesday night

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has admitted his side "let themselves down" in their 5-1 defeat to hosts Germany in the Nations League.

The Scots were outclassed by their opponents, who fielded a team packed with generational talents such as Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham.

Clarke said he will now "lock himself away in a darkened room" to analyze the performance and identify areas for improvement.

"We didn't play well enough," Clarke said. "We were second best in every department. We didn't create enough chances and we didn't defend well enough.

"We let ourselves down. We didn't show the quality that we know we have. We need to be better than that."

Scotland's next Nations League game is at home to Ukraine on Saturday.
